- choose the theme;
- select a novel, to be used as a "test rig" for identifying the connections between public history and technology;
- find the links for the novel, in the Web
- identify a concept map concerning the theme with respect to Technology and History (no more than five-six "concepts" are enough);
- try to compose an Alphabet for the chosen theme; it is an useful exercise to open your own boundaries in mapping the paths of the research;
- start to read the novel and mark the quotes where the "concepts" (see above point 3.) reveal their presence;
- read the textbook (Storia delle macchine) in order to identify the matter of the selected theme within the evolutive processes of the technology, without loosing the general chronology;
- record each step of your research in your log-book, i.e. in the Blog.
Example
- the theme is "Technology and Vision";
- the book is The Invisible Man, by Ralph Ellison;
- in Wikipedia... (etc.)
- the concept map for Vision may be:
- Eye
- Optics
- Light
- Colours
- Knowledge
- The "Vision Alphabet" (in Italian) is:
- A like Apparenza
- B like Buio
- C like Cannocchiale
- D like Diorama
- E like Effetto ottico
- F like Fotone
- ... and so on
- ...
Good read.
